直系亲属&/b&&br&一般来说，英文中的immediate family（直系亲属）包括父母、兄弟姐妹（siblings）、配偶（spouses）和子女。Close relative也可表达同样的意思。&br&&br&&b&? Relatives by marriage 亲家关系&/b&&br&新人结婚以后，双方的immediate family就都变成了对方的in-laws(姻亲)——father-in-law(岳父/公公)，mother-in-law(岳母/婆婆)，sister-in-law(姑子/姨子/嫂子/弟媳)，brother-in-law(内兄、弟/大伯子/小叔子/姐夫/妹夫)等等。&br&father-in-law(岳父) &br&mother-in-law(岳母) &br&son-in-law(女婿) &br&daughter-in-law(儿媳) &br&brother-in-law(姐妹的丈夫，夫或妻的兄弟) &br&sister-in-law(兄弟的妻子，夫或妻的姐妹)&br&&br&&b&? 此处插播一种特殊关系&/b&&br&同父异母/同母异父的兄弟=half-brother&br&同父异母/同母异父的姐妹=half-sister&br&&br&&b&? Grandparents&/u&&br&英美人民称呼自己的祖父母时还有一些亲昵的叫法。奶奶、外婆可以叫作granny、grandma等；爷爷、外公可以叫作grandad、grandpa等。但对他人提起自己的祖父母时，一般就说grandfather和grandmother。&br&如果想分清楚到底是爸爸那边还是妈妈那边的祖父母，就可以用“on ... side”的表达，例如 My grandmother on mymom's side 我外婆，还可以用maternal grandparent来指代外婆外公，爷爷奶奶则称为paternal grandparent。这种说法比较正式，比较书面。&br&但其实西方人平常不太在乎这位亲戚是父亲这边的(on the father's side)还是母亲那边的(on the mother's side)，通常就给一个称呼。&br&&br&你可以继续在前面加great-，表示再上一辈的祖父母，这称为the G rule。曾祖父母是great-grandparents，所以great-uncle就是舅老爷、姑老爷，great-aunt就是伯祖母、姑姥姥。great-great-great-grandfather曾曾曾祖父。你的曾孙子、曾孙女（great-grandchildren）都是你的descendants（后代），或offsprings（子女、后代）。&br&&br&&u&? Auntsand uncles&/u&&br&叔伯姑姑是paternalaunt/uncle，姨妈舅舅就是maternal aunt/uncle。他们都是你的aunt/uncle by blood，有血缘关系的。他们的配偶则是aunt/uncleby marriage，是姻亲关系的。还有，和我们中国人管爸妈的朋友叫叔叔阿姨一样，一些外国家庭里的孩子也会管爸妈的好友叫aunt或uncle。&br&&br&&u&? Cousins&/u&&br&Cousin一词不分男女，概括了所有“堂兄弟/姐妹;表兄弟/姐妹”。你的亲兄弟姐妹（siblings）的子女叫做nephew（侄子、外甥）和niece（侄女、外甥女）。&br&当人们说到cousins这个词时，通常指的是first cousins，即堂（表）兄弟姐妹。其他的远亲的堂（表）兄弟姐妹也可称作cousins。第二代堂（表）兄妹Second cousin 是你父母的堂（表）兄弟姐妹的孩子。第三代堂（表）兄妹Third cousin 就是你祖父母的堂（表）兄弟姐妹的孩子。&br&接下来，烧脑的部分来了。first cousins，second cousins等等分别都表示的是同一辈人，而不同辈分的cousins则使用removed来表示两个人之间差了几辈。差一个辈分，叫做once removed，差两个辈分就是twice removed。根据《牛津英语词典》（OED），至少在1548年就存在removed的这种用法了。&br&&br&用图举栗子：&br&&br&&figure&&img src=&https://pic4.zhimg.com/v2-79b1b26ba086c1dd085e2c7da123d905_b.jpg& class=&content_image&&&/figure&&br&?
