Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve 是固定式球阀，其与 浮动式球阀(Floating type)在工作原理上有一些差别。浮动式球阀只有一个上阀杆，没有下阀杆，当阀门关闭时，流体对阀球产生推力，阀球会在流体作用力方向产生一定的位移，这样阀球就会被挤在阀座上面，球与阀座之间形成密封，这属于单侧密封，也叫做阀后密封。可称为球动阀座不动。当阀门口径增加，阀球重量增加，浮动球的话容易将阀座挤压变形，且加大扭力。采用固定球阀结构，可以利用下阀杆将球顶起，减轻阀座负担。固定球的工作原理是阀球关闭时由于上下两个阀杆将球的位置固定，所以球不动，阀座在弹簧的预紧力作用下将阀门封闭，达到密封。属于双侧密封，即两边阀座都起到密封的作用。另外，高压情况下，固定球的应用也多一些，不过固定球的结构较复杂，在小口径，中低压的情况下，浮动球还是更加合算一些。
