Title: AirMech Wastelands
Genre: , , , ,
Developer:
Publisher:
Release Date: 24 Nov, 2017
What the developers have to say:
Why Early Access?
&AirMech Wastelands is an online action RPG and will require wider testing and balancing than is possible for our team. Phase One of testing with our most dedicated AirMech Strike players has gone well, and we are ready for Phase Two.
Phase Two involves connecting AirMech Strike and AirMech Wastelands accounts. All inventory and unlocks from Strike will be available in AirMech Wastelands, and vice versa. This provides incredible value for players to have two different games (one F2P and PvP focused, the other an RPG PvE coop) and shared progression between them.
This is an exciting concept as an alternative to having players start over when a new game comes out. It has definitely been more work than we expected, but it is worth it. However, we do want to test it bit by bit, and Early Access makes the most sense for this.&
Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
&We expect the Early Access phase to last approximately 1 month, since it is focused on technical testing. Leaving Early Access will not mean the end of development, but it will mean we are confident in the stability and ability to complete the campaign.
We currently update the build several times a week. Bugs are fixed, features are added or improved, and feedback from players incorporated.&
How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
&The release version of AirMech Wastelands will have all missions balanced with appropriate rewards. Quests need to be improved and rewards set, more Parts need to be created and the drop rate tuned. Much of the final work involves filling in any missing content in the drop tables, fixing bugs, and tuning the play experience.
Once we exit Early Access, the framework is in place to expand the game with more missions and content. The Early Access line for us is when players feel they will have a complete experience and the core systems are well defined. Players who like to help test and give feedback on design and balance will enjoy this Early Access phase. For players who want to focus on the game, and are not interested in participating in shaping the game, they would be best waiting until after we leave Early Access.&
What is the current state of the Early Access version?
&AirMech Wastelands is playable from start to finish currently. Coop is supported for most of the campaign with the exception of initial training missions which are designed to be solo.
We are still adding features and loot, and actively balancing with feedback from our testers. It is very playable without any major issues.
There is an ingame feedback and bug reporting tool for anyone to use.&
Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
&The price of AirMech Wastelands will not change when we leave Early Access. Note that any player who became any VIP level in AirMech Strike before November 1st 2017 can get AirMech Wastelands for free right now. More info here:
http://steamcommunity.com/games/AirMech/announcements/detail/0797026&
How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
&As an online multiplayer game, the Community is very involved in the development process. All players can leave feedback using the ingame report/suggestion tool. We are particularly interested in gathering feedback from a wide range of players with different hardware configurations and skill levels. Our goal is to make the game accessible for everyone, and still challenging for the most hardcore players. Being able to play coop will hopefully be a nice bridge to let players help one another master the game.&

This may or may not be interesting to you, but we are currently doing a key giveaway with Alienware Arena for an exclusive cosmetic head--the Alienware Head:This code can only be used in AirMech Strike because it has a Shop and Wastelands doesn't. At some point, we'll add a way to enter codes in Wastelands, but since the Strike and AMW accounts are linked, if you install/run Strike and use the code there, you'll get the contents of the Alienware Arrival pack in Wastelands too. (not a duplicate, it's a shared account)The Boosts don't work in Wastelands, just Strike, but the other things you might be interested in.It's just a free extra, no big deal, I just wanted to post about it to verify that yes they do appear in AirMech Wastelands if claimed. You can go here to get it:Or go to Alienware Arena and browse the Giveaways. This not a paid promotion on either side--just a mutually beneficial bonus for their audience and our players to help spread the word of AirMech. If you are in Strike and are wondering where to enter the code, click Shop, and then look in the lower left:

AirMech was released as limited edition CD album and digital download. Each item of the CD version contained a code which granted access to exclusive game content and design. Canadian label
re-released AirMech in 2014 as double vinyl in different variations.
The album was announced in September 2012. Carbon Games' Game Director James Green said, "The first thing I thought of was trying to get music that sounded like Front Line Assembly". The band agreed, on the condition that members could be included in the game with "crazy sonic weapons". During the production process the band wrote "a wide range of tracks that would be suitable for AirMech, from menus to ingame music."

AirMech received mainly positive reviews. However, some critics thought AirMech is bound too much by the limitations of a video game soundtrack.
Gregory Burkart of FEARnet wrote, "AirMech is a definite keeper for FLA fans and anyone who grooves on dark, violent and cinematic-scale industrial & EBM". He felt that AirMech "follows through in some ways from the band's previous earth-shaking album 'Improvised Electronic Device'", but also brought some innovations: "The real departure on AirMech is the introduction of orchestral elements, something the band only incorporated only loosely in the past, and then in a more experimental way."
Jaymie Burzette of Coma Magazine emphasized how AirMech contrasts with other Front Line Assembly releases, saying, "AirMech is very different from normal Front Line Assembly fare. Instead of their usual Electro-Industrial sound, this album contains all instrumental tracks and bears a heavy Dubstep influence."
Trubie Turner of ReGen Magazine was more critical of the fact that AirMech is a video game score, pointing out, "Fans of Front Line Assembly are sure to find AirMech to be an odd experience". Turner called the album "an impressive showcase of Front Line Assembly’s talent". However, "it can still feel overly repetitive and too heavily focused on loop ready riffs at times", Turner wrote and concluded, "Outside of the context of the game though, this purely instrumental work impresses but does not captivate."
Barcode Magazine, otherwise generally favorable of AirMech, found it to be "a downside [...] that AirMech had to be written to correspond to a particular soundtrack-style, which somewhat restricts the album from becoming what it could have been."
All tracks written by Bill Leeb, Jeremy Inkel, Jared Slingerland.
