The Far Cry community team was amazed when they spotted this awesome Batari cosplay. We reached out to its creator to ask her some questions and pick her nerdy brain.
Hi there, can you present yourself to the Far Cry community?
Hi! I'm Scarlett from , but my real name is Emilie.
I'm a Danish cosplayer and biologist in the making. I'm currently writing my Master's thesis on ancient DNA from humans from the Ice Age, and that might be why I fell in love with Far Cry Primal – as a scientist I'm very interested in ancient people and their way of life, so when I saw that Far Cry Primal was a thing, I added it straight to my games list. I watched my brother play Far Cry 3, but I only just joined the Far Cry ranks when I got into Far Cry Primal.
That’s pretty unique! And what about your cosplaying skills?
I have been cosplaying for two years! I'm still quite new in the cosplay community and I'm still learning with every costume, but I love it. It's such a creative hobby and I love to create wearable art – it's the best! I also love being on stage and performing, and I have represented Denmark at
in London, which was an amazing experience! I could go on and on about cosplay as a hobby, it's so much fun. I have been attending contests for as long as I have been cosplaying, and just recently I won first at Dreamhack Summer 2016 in Sweden (picture credits: Danarki).
Wow, congratulations! How was your experience of these competitions?
Thank you! I wore Amiri of the Six Bears from Pathfinder for the finals at EuroCosplay 2015, and I have had such a great reaction from fans of Pathfinder. I play Dungeons & Dragons myself, so it was so cool to actually make one of the iconic characters in real life. Only a few people have recognized the cosplay, but some did when I wore her at Dreamhack Winter 2015 and won second place. I love bonding over a character like that when meeting fans of the franchise! (I have attached two pictures of Amiri, if you want to see that, too! It's the barbarian lady.)
I wore the Empress of Bones from Asura Online for the competition at Dreamhack Summer 2016, and the judges were so nice at the pre-judging. I wasn't able to wear the bone wings at the pre-judging, but I wore them on stage for my small performance, and they said they loved it, so I couldn't be happier about it. :) It's a tough costume to wear, but so worth it!
Ok, that’s pretty impressive. But why Batari?
I chose Batari because of her fierceness and her amazing design. I have always loved big headdresses, and when I saw her in game, my initial reaction was &gotta cosplay her.& Then I saw she wasn't wearing a top and I knew I had to tweak the design a bit. ;) She's a tough and cold-hearted woman, but I really love how she doesn't bow down to anyone and that she's a very strong woman. She's got her priorities a bit mixed up and she rules with an iron fist, but hey, we can all have a bad day.
In short: she's a very well-written character and she looks so majestic and imposing that I couldn't resist. I usually gravitate towards dark and strong characters.
And how long did it take you to get the final version of the costume?
I finished the cosplay in six days. I made the decision quite late before the deadline, so I had to work on the cosplay a lot, but I didn't mind. I was trying out new materials and techniques, and I really love how it turned out, so I had fun!
What were the most difficult parts?
The headdress and the wig were quite challenging. I'm a blonde and I needed to make sure the dreads would cover my hair and not break the illusion. So I made a fake hairline of dreads I back-combed myself. The biggest issue ended up being the sheer weight of the headdress and dreads since everything had to stay on my head by itself. I solved this with multiple hairclips (ow!) and elastic bands. I also glued down the hairline with some prosthetic skin glue to make sure it didn't slide back.
What material did you use for it?
The headdress is made from beach mats! I bought some very cheap ones and painted liquid latex and glue on one side to make sure the woven straw didn't simply fall apart when I cut them into strips. Then I &braided& the strips of straw into the texture from the game (I used a lot of screenshots from the game and the concept art to make sure I replicated everything as closely as possible to the source material) and glued it onto a base I made from thermoplastic. Later I wove string onto the back part of the headdress and weathered the whole thing. I did the same for the bracers and shin guards. The rest of the costume was leather I had lying around from previous cosplays.
Do you have any advice for other Far Cry fans who’d like to start their own cosplay?
These kinds of cosplays are amazing to craft! You don't need to be precise and have a perfect technique or p the materials are all natural, and everything is rugged and dirty. It's really interesting to create something new that has to look old – so my advice would be to weather everything thoroughly to make it appear old. It's all about creative solutions like using coffee or tea to make leathers look old and stained, or using a wash of acrylics to make the straw look a bit dirty and worn by time. Weathering is everything in cosplays like these. :)
What did you think about the Wenja language that we used for the game?
I loved the Wenja language! Very guttural and primal: it seems very plausible for it to sound like that! I would not be very qualified to comment on the correctness, though. ;) I work with extracting ancient DNA from petrous bones (ear bones) and mapping the genes of the people in the population. Super interesting and very nerdy!
Would you like to share anything else about this project or the game?
Keep making games like these, lol. It makes my nerdy scientist heart happy.

It’s already been six months since Wenja survivors have been roaming the world of Oros, looking for food, weapons, and allies in a continuous fight for survival. There is always danger lurking: the savage wildlife, the cold northern weather, and the Izila and Udam tribes!
Not an easy task for Takkar to rebuild a strong Wenja village in these conditions...
To celebrate the six-month anniversary of the Far Cry Primal release, we are unveiling four exclusive pieces of hi-res concept art drawn by our amazing Ubisoft artists in the Toronto studio.
Used as visual reference by our development teams, the concept art eventually led to the final game design that you have been playing since February 23 on PlayStation 4 system and Xbox One, and March 1 on PC. We created a stunning and unpredictable Stone Age environment that you would feel immersed in.
Far Cry Primal features a savage open world that you can roam freely in. We hope you had unique experiences in the world of Oros and will keep enjoying your future Far Cry Primal adventures.

Fantastic and beautiful. There will be many negative reviews saying &boooring& but remember that this is a game about cavemen, in a proto-language, so complicated politics and in-depth story is just not possible and shouldn't be expected. Given this, Ubisoft made amazing use of personality of NPCs combined with amazing landscapes and animals. This is not a game for CoD-kids, it's for someone who appreciates the beauty of nature and fauna and who has an interest in neanderthalic history. Great NPCs, an emotional yet relatively simple story, and the best animal AI you've yet to experience.

The most repetetive game yet in the series

Gameplay is ok but repetitive with parts that are interesting, my biggest problem is with the uplay authentification crap and locking me out of playing if I forget my password which it seems to clear out after some updates.

it's awfulthere's no good melee play because you can't blockthe only thing you'll want to do is fire your bow at enemieseven on hard mode then if you're a decent shot the game is just super easy and as you only use the one weapon, super repetitive it was a great idea and I've been looking forward to it since FC3 but they did it awfully.would not recommend, waste of money

I LOVE this game it is amazing great graphics great story. one of my favorite games. I highly recommend this game to anyone! if you think you want this game go ahead and buy it it is very worth it. amazing game!

Although not as engaging story wise as FC3 or even FC4, I enjoyed the game. When I could play it that is. The game crashes/freezes constantly, requiring a hard reset of my PC. Searching online shows that this is a common problem that affects users with all kinds of different hardware setups and that has no real solution provided by Ubisoft. This makes the game literally unplayable.

Very brave devs. Many companies would be scared to try a game so out of the ordinary (COD for instance). Very well executed for what many would consider an incredible challenge. Only complaint is the story line never feels like itreaches a climax and is just pretty flat throughout the game. Well done and I can't wait to see what the future of Far Cry holds. Hay maybe a first person Assassins Creed/ Middle Ages Far Cry would sound spectacular after the execution in this game.8/10

I dismissed this game initially, but once I dove in it satisfied mutilple gaming itches:
Survival, Crafting, Story, Open World.
Where many survival / crafting games left me bored this kept pusing me forward with a great, yet simple, story of prehistoric clan survival, a easy crafting system that didn't feel like a grinding time-sync, and a solid progression system that always made me want to learn the new weapons and equipment I discovered. And the pets and system for pets is just awesome.
I mean, where else can you ride a Saber Tooth Tiger wielding a bone club! While a Far Cry game, it really feels like a new game worthy of its name: Primal
just quick review, if you like far cry series, the missing thing for primal is weak story (weak antagonists), i played the game without any grudge to them, without sense of revenge to them.if i could score in last three far cry games :far cry 3
9/10far cry 4 8/10far cry primal 6/10this is hard for me to recommend this but still its a fun game but dull.thank you.
Where do I start with this game... Firstly coming from Far Cry 4 there are some obvious similarities with Primal. This list of Pros & Cons will sum what I feel about this game. Overall I enjoyed it. BUT I can't help but feel it being repetitive compared to the previous series.Pros:+ Wealth of crafting content, plenty of replayability to unlock all crafting skills+ Wealth of skills, same as above+ Big open world, plenty of exploration. Easy to get lost in Oros. Also doesn't take long to travel on foot compared to fast travel+ 2 Boss Fights was satisfying enough, was a real pain but was worth the ending+ Cool cinematics+ Nice animations+ Fresh take on primative weapons with the ability to upgrade them.+ Really cool pets & their combat mechanics. Probably the best part of this game+ Smooth FPS optimization.+ Skill/exp progression relatively quick when balancing between side quests/main mission+ Visuals for a stoneage world is surprisingly good. Very immersive. Best played on High/Ultra+ New system in upgrading your own village.Cons:- Hints of repetitiveness from previous far cry series. Apart from the originality of creating a stoneage RPG game, everything else is the same: raiding outposts, villages, beating the oppressive bosses that's taken control of the region- Can't help but feel the storyline is similar in previous games
Easily my least favorite of all FC games. I REALLY wanted to like it, but by the end, It just felt repititous with a weak story line
that dragged on.
the idea is to good, but the GAME NOT SAVE. i
uninstalled, installed, and i made this process many times, but did not helped. Do not believe a company as big as yours have an stupid error
I liked this game because you have to craft weapons unlike previous far cry games. I also liked being able to tame beasts. The only thing that I didn't like was that there was no multiplayer or co-op because I really liked the multiplayer and co-op from far cry 4.
quite good i like it
Boring game make me sick after 4h playing it.
I have played more than 130 hours of this game and I'm still discovering new things. Probably one of the best RPG that I have ever played, Definetly worth the money
