这部作品的台湾中文版曾经在台湾地区造成了著名的出版禁止事件，中文版单行本被迫停止出版。
原著构思原型：古代的一种蛊术(金蚕蛊)，先人会将多种至毒之虫放入一容器，任其互相残杀吞噬，而最后剩下的那个，便成为最毒的蛊，致命的毒物。
本作品亦曾陆续被改编为同名电影、漫画、网页游戏及纸牌游戏、周边商品等
等。《大逃杀》正是该作家所撰写的恐怖小说作品。
生存游戏剧情梗概
「大」每年都会自全国各所国民中学的三年级学生中抽出一个班来参加一场生死游戏。在这场「游戏」之中，只有一个人能生存，其馀的人都必须死。这场游戏被称作一种「国防战斗实验」；在该国政府中，称作「第六十八项计画」，简称「计画」（漫画版译为「程式」，英文是「Program」）。
游戏的优胜者（也就是唯一的存活者）可以获得总统陛下（在那个独裁的国家中，总统被塑造一般的存在）的亲笔签名纸板，并保证未来的生活不虞匮乏。回到现实生活後，优胜者被强迫转学到另一个中学，要求对游戏的一切保持缄默。
而游戏的场地（当届为中的一座虚构小岛，名为「冲木岛」）戒备森严，四周围绕著巡逻艇，避免游戏者经由海上逃亡。每个人的颈上也都套著项圈，随时可以引爆，使行动受到限制。逃亡的机率，几乎趋近於零。除了优胜者以外的人，就算幸运逃出，也将遭到终生被通缉的命运。
故事的主角是42位就读於香川县城岩中学3年B班的学生。他们靠著政府配给的指南针、基本食粮与饮水，还有随机配给的武器，与自己的同学互相残杀。在毫无人性的游戏规则之下，前一刻还是同班同学，下一刻便变成了敌人。面对「不是你死，就是我亡」的恐惧，几乎没有人能保持理性。没有人能够被相信，也没有人愿意去相信别人。在这里，世俗的道德观念不再存在，一切就像回归到原始生物一般，只剩下生存竞争。结局只有男主和女主活了下来。
生存游戏游戏规则
计划简介：
此实验为六十八项计划。每年任意自全国中学三年级生随机挑选对象班级实施。对象班级的学生彼此战斗、械斗，其中杀人罪、伤害罪、威胁恐吓等罪均不会予以判刑。若实验进行顺利，并且剩下最后一人生还，将统计过程中的各项数据，调查其所花费的时间等资料，做为政府官方参考备档。
实施地点：方圆六公里的孤岛，逃离者格杀勿论!!
基本配备：
高科技定位项圈，防水耐撞，遭破坏立即“爆炸”；
随机发放高档武器；
基本三天份饮水、三天份食物、游戏地图、指南针、背包
实验规则：
不限手段、规则杀人；
仅能有一位生存者；
活动范围逐日减少；
若连续二十四小时无人死亡，则处死所有生存者（引爆所有学生的项圈）

1.Your name is Chris, and you are in a small plane, going across the Rocky Mountains. Suddenly the engine starts to make strange noises and the plane begins to go down into one of the mountains. Your radio does not work, and nobody knows where you are.

· You are afraid of big animals. Perhaps the animal is dangerous. You walk down the mountain. Go to 17.
