Steam是一个整合游戏下载平台。2003年，Steam系统与CS1.6一起问世。至目前为止，Steam的运作十分成功广泛，无数游戏发行公司的游戏在此平台上发行、更新。

至于为什么叫“Steam”。在Steam平台上下载游戏的速度是非常快的，速度就像一样喷薄而出，快得令人难以置信，所以名曰Steam。一般情况下可达到满速（请选择美国服务器节点）。
想要使用Steam，请先安装Steam平台，注册后即可享有Steam平台的（），而Steam平台上的付费游戏，必须于代理厂商处购买产品并在Steam上，或是通过Steam平台在线购买，取得游戏序号后（一般直接购买后就会直接获得游戏），即可拥有下载以及安装权（游戏激活后与账号永久绑定，任意一台电脑皆可下载）。
Steam用户端需要更新到最新版本，以便于获得更好的游戏。Steam平台的一切更新（包括游戏）都是自动进行的。
每个STEAM帐户除了帐号及密码之外。还有一组独一无二的STEAM。标准为：STEAM_0:0（也有可能是STEAM_0:1）:XXXXXXX（X为六到八码0~9的阿拉伯数字）
Steam平台的客户端新增加了一个名叫STEAM GUARD的功能，旨在保护Steam用户账户的安全。STEAM GUARD首先需要使Steam账户与一个安全邮箱绑定，在Steam用户使用一套以前未登录过自己Steam账号的电脑登录Steam账户的时候，Steam会发送一个包含验证码的电子邮件到安全邮箱中，然后通过登录界面弹出的验证界面输入验证码，来确定登录Steam账户的人是该账户的拥有人。STEAM GUARD大大增加了Steam账户的安全性能。
切记：不要将Steam和安全邮箱的密码设置为同一个。

注：如果你访问的网站为英文版，请依次点击右上角的LANGUAGE--&简体中文（Simplified Chinese）将网页转换成简体中文，随后便和大部分网站的注册流程一样，填写用户名，检查用户名是否可用，两次输入密码，输入可用的邮箱并设定密码保护问题。最后记得要在左下角勾选“我同意并且已经年满13周岁”，才可以继续。
最后点击右上角的登录来进行登录。
平台软件很小，只有1.5M可以直接下载。

运行安装包后点击NEXT→选择“I accept the license agreement AND I am 13 years of age or older”，点击NEXT→然后选择语言，Chinese，点击NEXT→这里选择你的安装路径，磁盘空间推荐10G以上，因为之后游戏会安装在Steam文件夹内，还要留些空间安装其它游戏用。（游戏安装位置可以更改，在平台内左上角点击steam--&设置--&下载--&内容库--&steam文件夹内设置）
切记文件目录名不能有中文，例如&D:\蒸汽平台\steam&这种的不能用，最好是&D:\steam\&，然后NEXT，安装完毕后STEAM会自动以中文语言启动，并开始更新，第一次会比较慢，耐心等待即可。
如前面所说Steam平台支持，只要你是国内IP就行，Steam上搜游戏必须需要用游戏的原版英文名称，中文是搜索不到的，另外Steam上经常性打折什么暑期和圣诞大优惠每周三大优惠之类的打折活动，经常性的75%折扣（就是二折）60%折扣等等之类的，其中很多大作级游戏，此外还有各种海外网站比如亚马逊之类的也出售支持Steam激活的游戏也打折很多。
海外购买就自行搜索和发帖咨询。
玩家也可以选择去淘宝自行搜索代购，用Steam+游戏名搜索也可，购买的时候注意看页面介绍和去问老板。但是淘宝上那些都是有风险的，需要自己去分辨是否黑key了，黑key会导致封号或者收回游戏，可以自己去复制淘宝店名和商家ID去搜索看看是否有黑历史。
淘宝购买的Steam游戏数字激活码一般是通过礼物系统来交易，比较靠谱，当然只是比较。不能保证百分百安全，不过相对来说礼物系统是挺靠谱的了，也可以选择盒装，只要支持Steam就行。
国内有正规的游戏代理商中电博亚开发了杉果游戏平台，该平台上也有出售Steam游戏激活码，自己看清楚页面介绍或者去论坛问问就行了，该平台诞生还不足一年，还没多少给力的游戏。不过价格方面很给力，可以期待下。
在Steam上购买了游戏后会在Steam界面的库显示，如果是激活码购买就点击Steam平台界面左下角的添加游戏选择激活产品即可。
在Steam界面的查看按钮选择设置然后点击下载分类，可以设置下载区，国内可以选择外国下载区和国内下载区啥的，选择外国下载区下载速度很快，那个啥国内也可以，只要你网络给力，基本是满速的，跟迅雷差不多。
你也可以选择用迅雷下载游戏源文件（必须适用Steam读取）然后把游戏文件放在steamapps文件夹下

不过不建议用迅雷下载，此外包含破解补丁的游戏文件必须不能用，否则会被封号
Steam上的游戏没有VAC反作弊功能就可以使用汉化补丁，至于怎么看是否带反作弊功能
就看游戏商店页面，搜索游戏名进入游戏页面往下拉看右边就会有显示支持的语言下面有单人游戏、多人游戏之类的，如果没有显示“启用 Valve 反作弊保护”就代表可以用汉化补丁。
汉化补丁最好选择内核汉化，外挂式汉化一般不能用。
VAC(Valve Anti-cheating)是一种自动启动的反作弊系统。
VAC支持所有由Valve出品的游戏及第三方mods，可以在所有Source引擎游戏服务器使用，在连接Source引擎游戏时服务器会检测VAC是否加载。这个反作弊系统会永久禁止作弊的玩家进入开启VAC系统的服务器。
VAC将会扫描电脑的内存，不会扫描硬盘。VAC启动时对游戏中的画面、速度等没有影响。
不仅在反作弊中有用，同时也会阻止盗版者进入正版服务器内。VAC是无解的，请不要相信任何作弊器宣称自己能够过VAC的言论。所以，请不要作弊。

这项功能使得玩家不需要开启游戏就能知道服务器的状况，包括服务器的名称、玩家数量、连线状态等，也可以使用滑鼠右键将自己常用的服务器加入收藏夹中。还可从历史列表查获自己之前去过的服务器，以以及了解好友在哪个服务器中。
库，也就是游戏列表，可显示玩家所拥有的游戏，并显示游戏的更新状态。有多种显示模式。
Steam平台可以在游戏中截图来制作自己喜欢的相片。在游戏中可以截图，并保存在本地，同时可以在社区中上传自己所截的图片。默认截图键是F12。Steam用户可以在设置——游戏中这个选项卡中自定义截图按键。

A17：理论上可以。但是使用VPN登录Steam帐号本身已经违反Steam的用户协议，可能会导致封号，不建议这样操作。
导致Steam帐户被禁用的原因很多，大多数为你的游戏来源非法，较普遍的情况是，盗用他人信用卡进行消费。通常在1~3个月后持卡人收到账单后拒绝付款，导致帐号被禁，或者是伪造的假信用卡，1~3个月后银行拒绝付款，导致帐号被禁。被禁可以通过Steam Support进行申诉解禁，但必须提供持卡人全名，卡种，过期日期，尾4位号码，详细账单地址等信息。一般是没有这些信息的，所以取回被禁帐号基本是不可能的。若您的Steam账户有多个游戏，只有某个游戏属于这种情况，其它的游戏是正常购买的，则可以删除违法游戏后，恢复帐号。
防止这种情况发生的办法很简单，自己办信用卡消费即可。或者找信誉、口碑好的卖家进行代购。切勿贪小便宜，以免后悔莫及。Steam已经支持付款，请尽量使用支付宝进行付款，以保证您的账户安全（使用支付宝的一大好处是——支付宝支持话费卡，对于国内的学生党是相当好的）。
日，Valve集团总裁Gabe Newell（俗称G胖）向Steam的用户发送了一篇通知，承认黑客大规模攻击了Steam论坛，而且受到攻击的论坛数据库中，包含用户信用卡账号和个人信息数据包，其中用户信用卡账号和信息的数据包是加密的，但是Valve不能确定加密的信用卡信息是否被黑客盗走，也不能确定信用卡账号和密码是否被破解。Valve提醒Steam用户时刻注意自己的信用卡使用信息。Steam论坛关闭，Steam平台仍旧运行，Valve同时进一步调查黑客事件，当论坛恢复时，所有用户都被要求变更密码。用在Steam平台和Steam论坛使用的密码如果相同，也建议更换Steam平台的账户密码。
Newell强调黑客攻击的是Steam论坛，并没有攻击Steam平台，所以没有强制用户更改Steam平台密码，但是如果用户不放心的话，可以将Steam平台密码也更改掉。
