Provision Rates
The actual provision rates is 1100 for the 6mb and 2200 for the 8mb. This allows for any overhead, so the customer should see the advertised upload, if not more (thanks to powerboost).
Unlike some ISPs who provision a 1mb upload at exactly 1000, Comcast went above that (like they do with their download).

Looks like Blast! doe 't have that much of an advantage now for those of us who need u tream eed.
The only reason I decided to upgrade from Perf. Plus to Blast! was for the 2mb upload.
I don't need 16mb down for the price difference they charge us in the Chicago area.
Looks like I'm going to call and downgrade to save some money for gas.

Re: Provision Rates
if $10's is going to significanty help you with your purchasing of gasoline, then you have bigger problems than a price difference for your internet eed packages.
the $10 difference for me is = to just one trip to work and back. Gas sucks, e ecially now that it is closing in in some areas to $5 or even higher. if it equaled a tank of gas, the internet would be gone, but $10 seems a little i ignificant.

Well, you could say that the rate increases on the cable tv (at least 2 rate increases per year in my area) su idizes the Internet cost and kee it down.

Of course, that is po ible, but unlikely. Most major corporatio make each line of busine meet separate profit goals and hold their managers re o ible to meet them. Short term inducements to conquer new customers(promotion deals) may cro -su idize, but over time each line of busine must meet their own goals.

No. A T1 has many advantages that still make it a much more attractive co ection.
The overwhelming majority of T1 circuits in the US are not for Internet acce they are for private Frame/ATM/MPLS co ectio , TDM voice services, and ISDN PRI for video conferencing. (though this is rapidly being replaced by IP telepresence offerings)

SLA's are nice and all, but for $300-$500+/month, busine es should be getting faster co ectio .

Busine requires reliability far more than eed.
For busine a single T1 can handle hundreds of users (depending on the type of busine ).

But we're quickly getting to a point where 1.5m shared acro even a small busine office is not enough, and for the price, they should be getting more for their money.

It is so long as you keep people working and off You Tube LOL.
But yeah, it depends on the busine .
If you're in a busine with a ton of attachments like large PDFs, they'll need a bonded T1.

Reliability, eh? I've had a co ection with Time Warner Cable that I leave ru ing co tantly working on something.
It has gone down once for an hour in the last
- during a very severe thunderstorm, and 15 minutes during a severe winter storm.
That is pretty damn reliable, and it's not even busine cla , either.

No it's not reliable.
My T1 has gone down, let's see, NEVER.
And if it ever did, they have to fix it immediately.
And with Time Warner's changing usage policy you will no longer be able to leave it "working" all the time.
I would NEVER trust my busine operatio to Time Warner residential services.
I get to do with my T1 whatever I want...no bull crap ca , no bull crap traffic shaping, no bull crap AUP.

Eh what... Time Warner offers busine services... in fact they have a "home busine " cla here that is $10 more a month that RR Turbo residential service and it is 15/2 M . I was pointing out the fact that I had incredibly reliable residential service, their busine service must be even more reliable.
Also I think I could live with my Internet co ection going down for an hour once a year that ru at 15 M i tead of having a co ection that never goes down but ru at 1.5 M and is ten times more expe ive.
I also don't know what you're talking about with ca ... Time Warner has no ca , at least not yet. If that shit they're trialing in Texas is succe ful and they implement in on their entire network I'll agree with you, but for now Time Warner Busine cla is a much better deal than T1. They also do not traffic shape.
I have downloaded over 1 TB in a month from Time Warner Cable before and they never gave a shit. That's residential too... I can't imagine them being more strict with a busine cla co ection.

Again, the prices and eeds you quote are residential/home office, not true busine .
If you want an SLA, multiple static IPs, and decent upload eeds you pay through the nose with Time Warner.
I don't know about your market but in my market the tier pricing was similar to New York.
The Los Angeles TWC site no longer quotes price but here are prices for the NY area and these look about to be what I was quoted a while back.
Pricing for Hudson Valley area dynamic IP pla Bandwidth Optio Dow tream/U tream
1 M /256 K $99.95
2 M /384 K $129.95
1.5 M /768 K $149.95
4 M /384 K $179.95
3 M /768 K $219.95
1.5 M /1.5 M $399.95
8 M /2 M $529.95
At the time I talked to them, right when they rolled out 15/2 here in Huntington Beach, they offered 15/2 for home office only and maxed at 10/2 for actual busine es and it was a total rip off.
I don't remember exactly what it was but I could almost get a bonded T1 (which while slower was guaranteed bandwith) for that price.
What was worse is that throughput was not guaranteed at all.
They were quoting me typical "up to" eeds whereas my T1 has guaranteed throughput.
I pay $359 and get 13 static IPs, a free $800-$900 Netopia 4622XL router, GUARANTEED bandwidth and a very good SLA.
Also I have the option for reasonably priced fully managed security.
TWC Biz didn't offer those extra service optio .
TWC Busine is fine if yer a dentist or mom & pop video store but not if you actually rely on your co ectivity.
TWC Biz is more a competitor to busine ADSL and SDSL than T1/T3 services.
Busine DSL for 7Mb in our local market ru about $120/mo with Verizon and for 6Mb with AT&T about $65/mo, WAY cheaper than Time Warner Busine .

T1 eed is only 1.54m . Way too slow for busine es with doze of employees sending emails, CAD drawings, etc on a regular basis. I have the 50m down/20m up tier with FIOS at home and I can't wait until they upgrade to something faster.

Very Doubtful. I manage the network of 3 offices located in different places. The main office has a T1, one of the remotes has a T1, and one uses Comcast high eed busine .
The location on Comcast uses an IPSEC tu el for basic packet encryption because all of the users are either on a software *** or dial in to the terminal server. There are good days and bad days. On good days users may get dro ed once or twice. On bad days, we will see hours of no or extremely poor service.
It's faster than a T1, yes, but we have to deal with the above mentioned problems.

Both times the tech referred the i ue to maintenance.
