TOPIC: ISSUE29 - Public figures such as actors, politicia , and athletes sho
uld expect people to be interested in their private lives. When they seek a pu
blic role, they should expect that they will lose at least some of their priva

Public figures, which usually a ear as succe ful people in various fields, a
ttract curiosity of lots of people about their private lives, and on the other
hand, they are nece ary to expose some of their privacy to keep being famous
. Thus, should they expect to lose their privacy, e ecially on something emba
rra ing or awful? In my point of view, they certainly have the rights to defe
nd their privacy, which is also their human nature.
The reason why people are so interested in public figures' private lives, perh
a is that they are ones that ordinary people are dreaming of to be. People u
sually show great interests about these figures, and are interested in everyth
ing about them. Besides their wonderful performance in their profe ional fiel
d, people want to know more about what they look like in daily lives? If a fan
of Michael Jordan finds that when Jordan is sleeping, he ores, probably thi
s fan ores, too. Then, he might be very proud about his oring at sleep, an
d do not feel embarra ed when some other mentio that, for Jordan ore as w
ell. People tend to find something in common with their idols, and as a result
, they love these idols more, or sometimes modify their behaviors or habits.
As for the public figures, they have the demand to keep being famous, which en
courage them to expose some of their privacy to the public, in order to attrac
t more. As mentioned above, ordinary people are interested in public figures'
lives, thus, these figures simply satisfy these curiosity. For one thing, a pu
blic figure who does not a ear on media, such as TV program, new apers or in
ternet, will soon disa ear from the sight of people, then, to prevent such ca
se, as we usually see in Hollywood, the stars tell the new aper something abo
ut their everyday lives, and that will help them not to disa ear from public.
For another, a ropriate exposure of their privacy can attract more people, a
dding points to their performance.
However, sometimes, the ma media together with their editors expose too much
privacy of public figures, which gives those succe ful people lots of pre u
re. Some public figures, e ecially for politicia , they want to be famous, a
nd also, they want to look perfect in the eyes of ordinary people. Therefore,
they will carefully and selectively expose their privacy, not to expose everyt
hing. While on the other hand, the journalist does not think so. Take a politi
cal leader for example, if the new aper tells to the public everything about
him, ranging from wearing a red suit to his quarrels with his wife last night,
although most of these small things have nothing to do with his job in govern
ment, yet they do have some influence even impact on his election campaign. Public figures are one of our human beings, thus we should re ect their choic
e, and if they want to keep something secret, those are human nature and human
rights that they obviously have. Privacy this word itself mea that someone
wants to be alone and free to be himself. To enjoy some privacy is no doubt hu
man nature, thus every one, including public figures should have their persona
l lives not being interrupted. Also, privacy is one of the human rights which
are written into Co titution, and government, and court have the duty to prot
ect one's right of privacy. If a TV program expose too much privacy which this
person would not want to be public, then, he have the right to ask for a stop
of this program. Human nature and Human rights drive him to do so.
In sum, to be a famous person sometimes is not that easy, it might require som
e sacrifice of one's everyday life. While when ma media do harm the privacy
of some public figures, it is their human nature and also human rights to say

mes more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. This evidence sugges
ts that men are more likely to be distre ed about having dental work done tha
n women are. Thus, dentists who advertise to attract patients should target th
e male co umer and emphasize both the effectivene of their anesthetic techn
iques and the se itivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients.

In this argument, the author claims that dentists who advertise to attract pat
ients should pay ecial attention to the male co umer as well as emphasize t
heir effectivene of techniques and se itivity of their staff. To su ort th
is claim, the author cites a statistic result. Close scrutiny of this argument
, I find it is based on several u u tantiated a umptio , which renders the
claim rather unconvincing.
Firstly, as to the statistics, which is the foundation of this claim, the auth
or shows little information about that, which makes it unwarranted. The argume
nt does not inform us, who conduct this survey, and how many dentists are invo
lved, and it also does not tell any information about how many dentists re on
d this survey. Lacking such information, it is entirely po ible that only thr
ee dentists took part in the survey, and after the survey only two of them res
ponded. If it is this case, the conclusion based on this statistic would be re
ally unconvincing.
Even if this statistic can represent most of the dentists, it doe 't mean the
fact that men faint three times more than women indicates men are more likely
to be distre ed about having dental work. There can be other reaso causing
this fact, perha the dentists pay le attention to this male co umer, or
the drugs used for men are different with that for women, which renders men to
faint more. Without ruling out or even co ider other factors, the author's a umption is rather doubtful, which prevent his claim from being credible.
Thirdly, the author indicates that dentists’ emphasize on their effectivene of techniques and the se itivity of their stuff will result in the succe o
f their advertisement, while on the other way, he provides i ufficient eviden
ce to su ort this indication. Perha it is the equipment that matters most w
hen a male patient chooses his dentist, or the location of the clinic of the d
entist. For that matter, the suggestion made by this author will can not help
be a poor advice.
Finally, the author falsely equates male patients to all the patients. Yet no
evidence is provided about that. Perha male patients only take a small part
in all the patients, perha in fact there are more female who do not usually
go to dentists. If it is this case, this recommendation will be a poor one and
do little help to dentists.
Above analyses show that the author's recommendation is based on several unwar
ranted a umptio or indicatio . To better su tantiate his claim, the autho
r should provide more information about the statistics, give sufficient eviden
ce that the effectivene of the dentists' techniques and the se itivity of t
heir stuff will attract male patient. Also, the percentage of male patients in
the whole is nece ary.

i ue这篇例子太少了，有点紧张，另外自己准备的时候也没想出来有什么好例子。总不能
说张国荣因为舆论压力关于***而自杀，又不晓得考官对于男人那个什么态度，这种东西不
这两篇的字数是不是都太多了，晕了。居然写了640， 以前最多550：（

练得太少了导致考试时间不足，argument现在就只能跟着模版的样子才写的完。
i ue分不行要靠argu来补，argu再不行就真的挺糟糕了

我真正备考时间只有两周，太少了：（ i ue的文字根本就没放在心上，没办法，什么好句子也背得很少（只好用狂用简单句，能说complicated就不说intricate），
考试的时候希望不要太慌：（
今天去查考试时间发现在中午11点，还好不要8：30，从来没这么早起过……

我复习argu的时候看了很多范文，猴哥的和北美的那些，还有新东方的内参，ets的范文没看，不看了
可能无意识的就沿袭下来一些东西
的确感觉有点模版，不过到现在没搞清楚什么是模版，为此搞了很久ets如何鉴定***，结论是被判得人真的很倒霉……很可能是无意识的。
