Liu Xiang (Simplified Chinese: 刘翔, pinyin: Liú Xiáng) (born July 13, 1983 in Shanghai, China) is a hurdling athlete.
In 2002, Liu launched his career in fine style by wi ing the first IAAF Grand Prix in Lausa e with a world youth and Asian record time of 13.12 seconds in the 110 metres hurdles.
He has since made the finals at the IAAF World Champio hi in Athletics and IAAF World Indoor Champio hi in Athletics (twice); two of the three cases has seen American hurdling great Allen Joh on take the major prize, but in the last in May at Osaka, Liu managed to beat Joh on with an Asian-record time of 13.06 seconds.
Still young, Liu has improved steadily, and won a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the 110 meters hurdles event. In the final, he equaled the world record of 12.91 seconds held since 1993 by Colin Jackson of Wales. This is the first time an athlete of non-African descent has di ed under 13 seconds for the 110 meter hurdles.

腾讯体育8月4日北京讯（记者张楠 杨露莎）北京时间8月4日，刚刚参加完世界游泳锦标赛并取得优异成绩的中国游泳队载誉归来，他们于下午2点左右抵达首都国际机场。随着游泳中心主任李桦率先出现在机场大厅，张琳、庞佳颖、杨雨等在本届世锦赛中夺金的选手也纷纷亮相。引起了机场一阵轰动。

本次世锦赛中国游泳队共取得了4枚金牌2枚银牌和4枚铜牌的骄人战绩，这在94年罗马世锦赛之后尚属首次。国家体育总局的领导崔大林、北京市体育局局长孙康林也亲自来到机场迎接凯旋的运动员和教练员。
今天来到机场迎接中国游泳队队伍非常壮观，记者不下50人，北京游泳队更是倾巢出动，全部运动员都来到机场迎接中国游泳队，而大家心中的英雄只有一人，那就是张琳。或许是队里已经预料到这个情况，特意安排张琳第一个走出关口，就在张琳出现的瞬间场面一度失控。“这次比赛让我很满意，这肯定了我们的水平，也为我们多年来的努力，这次整个中国代表团表现都很满意。我也要感谢我的领导、教练和家人。”张琳很平静的面对媒体和球迷的礼遇。不过，此次世锦赛让他最遗憾的还是错失了1500米自由泳奖牌。“1500米我一直想游好，但是我们没有发挥出我的特长，之后还是会总结一些原因，以后的大赛也不会发生这样的情况了。”
而对于张琳来说下一个任务就是准备全运会的比赛，后天他就将和队伍一同前往昆明进行高原训练：“接下来我将全力投入全运会的备战当中。这也是我年底前最重要的任务。”
在谈到如今他已经被媒体称之为“水上刘翔”有何想法时，张琳腼腆地笑笑表示，“刘翔是我们国家最优秀的运动员之一，能把我和他相提并论我感到非常荣幸。我知道他现在还在康复之中，衷心地祝福他早日康复。”
