ITV Play programming to be ' hased out'

ITV Play's remaining call TV programming on ITV1 and ITV2 is to be axed, the network's executive chairman Michael Grade
Grade said that remaining overnight phone in competition and gaming shows will be phased out by the end of this year, as the negative publicity surrounding compliance i ues with such services has seen call volumes drop to what the broadcaster called "uneconomic levels."
In March, the ITV Play cha el was axed le than a year after its launch. It was replaced with time shift cha el ITV2 +1. The broadcaster said the move was a "commercial decision."
All of ITV Play's programmes were
in Deloitte's review of ITV premium rate participation TV offerings.

ITV Play digital cha el axed

ITV has axed digital cha el ITV Play in the wake of the participation TV crisis that has rocked UK broadcasting in recent weeks.
The much criticised call-TV cha el was pulled off air last week while ITV called in Deloitte to conduct an independent audit of all its premium-rate phone and interactive services.
ITV confirmed today that ITV Play will not be returning to Freeview or Sky Digital.
From Thursday, the cha el's slot on Freeview will be taken by timeshift service ITV2 +1, which is currently only available on Sky Digital.
However, ITV Play programming will continue to be broadcast overnight on ITV1 and ITV2.
It is understood that ITV Play was not profitable as a stand alone digital service - ITV only made money on ITV Play programming on ITV1 and ITV2. ITV's a uals results last week revealed that ITV Play contributed £54m in revenues last year.
ITV Play programming was cleared by Deloitte yesterday to return to ITV1 and ITV2 overnight.
